Gus Robbins

Gus Robbins, 79, Evarts, died peacefully at his home on Sunday, July 25, 2010, with his family by his side. A native of Holmes Mill, he had lived his entire life in Harlan County.
He worked for Shackleford Coal Co. for seventeen years. He owned and operated Evarts Service Station and By-Pass Auto for thirty-three years. He was a field representative for Dr. Tim Lee Carter, Congressman and was a Kentucky Colonel. Gus also served on the Evarts City Council and Evarts TV Board for many years. Gus was known as the most accommodating man on Cloverfork. He was a friend to all who knew him, a devoted husband, and a wonderful father. He was a father figure to all of his nieces and nephews as well. He loved life, all of his family and friends, and special pet "Dixie".
Gus was preceded in death by his parents, Mack C. and Eunice Rutherford Robbins; five brothers, Chester, Raymond, Cletus, Ivory and Ivan Robbins; four sisters, Rossie Mae Witt, Letha Huff, Burnette Sumnler and Estelle Robbins; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Paul and Thelma Baker Trosper; and an exceptional nephew, Hershel Huff.
He leaves to grieve his passing his loving wife of fifty-three years, Margaret Ann Trosper Robbins, Evarts; his son, Bill Mack Robbins and wife, Amanda, Manchester; his daughter, Joyce Lynn Hatfield and husband, Myron, Pennington Gap; and four precious grandchildren: Jessie Mack and Brittany Ann Robbins, Lauren Margaret and Lesley Ann Hatfield. Also surviving are a special niece and helper, Sherry Robbins Diaz, a special sister-in-law, Vivian Trosper, all of his "station buddies" and a particular helper and friend, Rick Shelton.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 28, 2010, from 3 until 7 pm at the Evarts Funeral Home. The funeral will immediately follow the visitation at 7 pm with the Rev. Gary Craig, Jr., Mose Wynn and the Rev. Frank Howard officiating.
Burial will be Thursday at 11 am at the Resthaven Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Myron Hatfield, Rick Shelton, Wallace Napier, John Cody, Chris Trosper, Chad Brock, John Cox and Clark Cusick. Honorary pallbearers will be Ernest Smith, Lewis Bianchi, L.J. Cottrell, Jerry Short, Jim Foster, Harvey Napier, Larry Caudill, Bill Moore, Lewie Schmitt, John Christian, Billy Powell, John Tomlinson, Paul Williams and Clyde Payne.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Gus's memory to Evarts Baptist Church Building Fund and/or Mountain Heritage Hospice.
Evarts Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.

sorry to hear about your loss in your family Gus was a really nice and friendly guy and everone that know him loved him and I sure will miss him and my thoughts and prayer are with you and the family
I am saddened to hear about Gus. I know he will be missed. It is hard to say goodbye to a father as well as a partner for so many years. Please know my love and prayers are with you all.
